Small Business Accounting Services: Which ones make sense for you?

When a company is looking to improve their bottom line, one of the first ideas they typically consider these days is outsourcing. Outsourcing is incredibly popular these days, and it is easy to see why: Lowered costs, vast amounts of time saved, and huge headaches avoided! Financial services continue to be one of the most popular choices to outsource, for a variety of reasons. However, every company is different, and you may not want to outsource all of these functions. So how is a business owner supposed to decide which small business accounting services are right for them?

Typically, there are three distinct financial services companies consider outsourcing:

  • Bookkeeping Services - This umbrella covers services such as payroll processing, billing or payables processing, and similar services. They are perhaps the most popular group of accounting services to outsource, as they are usually considered the most tedious and time consuming to perform well.
  • Accounting & Tax Services - Depending on how complicated your tax situation is, you may want to consider outsourcing these services as well. Carefully consider: Is the cost of keeping a full-time employee around to handle your taxes worth the benefit you are receiving? In many cases, it is not, and your company would be much better off cloudsourcing a professional to do your tax work at a fraction of the cost.
  • CFO & Financial Coaching Services - Many entrepreneurs consider their CFO too integral a position to consider outsourcing, but they should be aware that a growing number of businesses are finding this to be an excellent way to bring a new level of financial expertise to their companies. The services of a strategic financial coach can help you bring your business to new levels of profitability.

Not all companies will be comfortable outsourcing all of these functions. However, it is the rare business that would not benefit from outsourcing at least one of these groups of functions to a competent outside contractor. Consult with a qualified team of financial professionals to help you determine which small business accounting services may be right for you.
